My beloved student Tina James: “Tina James lives a committed life doing all she can to make her time on Earth one that enhances the lives of others. She has devoted herself to service without attachment to reward for her own sake. She will do anything to ensure the safety, happiness and liberation of another. She will not only climb mountains, swim oceans and walk deserts to get to someone who is in need, which she has done, but she also has invested her precious time in the practice of yoga, meditation and Sanskrit in order to gain the necessary knowledge and wisdom to enable her to truly be of service to others. She does not restrict her help to only lost skiers on the snowy Canadian slopes. She will come to the aid of anyone and everyone who needs her, including but not limited to humans, dogs, cats, bears, and even trees. She knows how to be tough as well as gentle according to the circumstances. She exemplifies the definition of a yogi that Shri Krishna provides in the Bhagavad Gita: “A true yogi has equanimity of mind and has equal regard for all beings. She perceives the holiness in everyone. She hates no creature, she is friendly and compassionate, patient and forgiving and is not attached to possessions or ego and is indifferent to pain and pleasure. “ Tina James is a powerful Jivamukti Yoga Teacher who walks her talk. --Sharon Gannon co-creator of the Jivamukti Yoga Method |
About Tina
Profile
Tina is an experienced and innovative health and wellness professional. Throughout her 20 year career she has developed groundbreaking and original award winning concepts in health, well-being and yoga. Chapel Rock Gym was developed with the first indoor climbing wall within a wellness facility in the UK, and this was followed by the inspirational and internationally acclaimed Chapel Spa, which was at the forefront of the spa renaissance.
Tina was born in Cheltenham England, went to Rome and worked with horses, where she competed at a international level. On returning to the UK she became involved in heath and fitness, attaining a wide cross section of qualifications and participating in many fields of elite athletic performance. High altitude climbing intrinsically linked with yogic breathing, and witnessing first hand the destruction of the glaciers were what set Tina upon the path she now passionately follows.
These life experiences have led Tina to find her true vocational calling – learning and teaching Yoga, with her focus on her wish to develop a truly ecologically sustainable Jivamukti center that incorporates the indigenous peoples of the world and their cultures. Tina’s first teachers Shri K Pattabhi Jois and Manju Jois began her journey towards the enlightenment principle and she took the luxury of practicing with many teachers over a period of 15 years to finally find her place in the Jivamukti linage.
Tina is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti and an E-RYT 500 Teacher. She mentored for Sharon Gannon and David Life at the 2008 teacher training at the Omega Institute New York. Tina is an expressive and inspirational teacher and incorporates the powerful mystical aspects of the ancient art of yoga. She integrates a dynamic Vinyasa flow of sequences with ever unfolding visualization tools, which assist her students to create a powerful intention with precision and perfect alignment. Her well articulated class’s assist her to be an impressive public communicator. Tina’s work continues to evolve and is deeply influenced by Sharon Gannon and David Life.
Recently her main influence has been the raw, pure and natural beauty of the animals that live close to her forest home in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. This has seen the development of her own unique ‘Practice of the Wild’ class, where Tina’s own wild and passionate spirit has manifested itself.
Tina is considerate of others, confident and without ego, a very persuasive animal rights activist advocate and is able to motivate and communicate to achieve exceptional personal and business performance. Tina is an avid PETA supporter and works with Bear Smart, has the highest integrity, and is able to relate to and create trust in all.
As well as the development of her own centre, Tina will continue to teach retreats world wide, both to her existing base of students, as well as constantly reaching out to new audiences looking to change their personal lives for the better, whilst at the same time positively contributing to the wellness of our beautiful blue planet and all its beings.

Compassion is an essential ingredient of Ahimsa. Through compassion you begin to see yourself in others beings. This helps you refrain from causing harm to them. Developing compassion does something else, however which is of special interest to the yogi. It trains the mind to see past outer differences of form. You begin to catch glimpses of the inner essence of other beings, which is happiness. You begin to see that every single creature desires happiness. Every single being desires to know the self, although this desire may not always be a conscious one.
If you seek enlightenment, or even if you seek happiness, go to the cause. Nothing exists without a cause. The root cause of happiness is compassion. - His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
